Truth Or Consequences

I will take my stand [stay (stand by, up), tarry] watch, [safeguard] and station [present] myself on the tower, and watch [look up] forth to see [discern, make to enjoy] what he will say to me. Hab 2:1

Who are you going to when it comes to receiving instruction and direction for your life? Habakkuk determined that his safeguard, his basis of truth from which to draw from would fcome rom the LORD.

Sadly there are many believers today who are listening to everyone and everything but the counsel of the LORD. In doing so they forsake the path of truth and open themselves to outside influences that directly oppose the Word of the LORD.

And what are some of these influences? Let's see there's Dr. Ph**, Dear Ab***, Dr. Spo**. If that weren't enough there are, readers, psychics, tarot cards, crystals, and yes, even the advise of "well meaning friends."

But as believers we are reminded; "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful" Why? Because, the "ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous"
Psalm 1

Yes, if we are going to be successful warriors then our fist line of defense must come from our ability to discern God's voice above all the other voices that would lead us astray. This is our safeguard; this is our first line of defense.

Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name - I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me.
Ps 119:30, Ps 86:11

So how is that we find so many "Christians", and I use the word lightly, going to the world for advice? I mean, "If we receive [obtain] the witness [report] of men, is not the witness of God is greater?"
1John 5:9

And if it be that the witness of God is greater than the witness of man, which it is , then why would one seek the opinion of another, especially when we are told that; "He [God] layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous
Prov. 2:27, and that He [God] will liberally bestow, yea, shower that wisdom, to all those who would call upon Him in Faith?

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives to all men generously and without reproaching, and it will be given him.
James 1:5

I suggest to you three reasons, and there are many more, why a professing "Christian" would choose man's opinions over the more "sure word of prophecy" we find in Christ.

Because in soliciting the opinion of another they would be free to reject their insights if they didn't agree with them. In other words, it's not convenient.

"And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come Felix trembled, and answered Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee"
Acts 24:25

Because as a believer, and as one who possesses the "mind of Christ" [1Cor. 2:16], they already know what God will tell then and the truth would be to hard for them to handle.

"Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word."
John 8:42

Because, and I call this the Rehobam Syndrome, they are desperate to find others who would help enable them to carry out their sinful choices.

"But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him and stood before him. And the king answered the people harshly, and forsaking the counsel which the old men had given him."
1Kings 12 [read entire chapter]

Why do I sound so dogmatic on this subject? Because I believe it is a matter close to the FATHER'S heart. For listen to what we hear Him instructing the disciples on the Mount of Transfiguration;

THIS IS MY BELOVED SON, HEAR YE HIM.
Matthew 17:5

Yes, we must close are ears to the sickly counsel of the world and devote ourselves to the discerning of our Master's voice. Simon Peter summed this whole matter up correctly when he confessed To whom shall we go LORD, thou hast the words of eternal life.John 6:68

Who or what are you listening to today?

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them,
and they follow me. And I give unto them eternal life
and they shall never perish.
Joh 10:27
