Real Happiness

Imagine being in the position of get everything you wanted, when you wanted it. Now the world would call that happiness. But real happiness is not based on "happenings"; that is to say, what's going on at the present time. No, HAPPINESS is a state of mind. Yes, genuine happiness is, being content with what you get from the hand of God, whether it be good or whether it be "evil."

There was a time in Israel's history when God gave them whatever their hearts desired. Don't believe it, then look at Psalms 106:15; He gave them what they asked." Wow, pretty neat huh? Not really! Take
a look at the price they paid for it, but sent a wasting disease among them Psalms 106:15b RSV.

So how did Israel fall into this trap? We read in verse fourteen of the same chapter; But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.Psalms 106:14 (KJV)

The word "lusted" in this verse means; "to wish for." And what did they continually wish for? Believe it or not, that they could "return to Egypt", where they lived in bondage. Yes, they wanted to return the familiar, what they had grown accustomed to, just so they wouldn't have to put their trust in Jehovah and His "unseen plan for their lives. How about you? Are you going through a wilderness experience? Are you finding yourself wishing you could go back to the days of yesterday, to the meager scraps the enemy dished out to you?

Are you content to receive both the "good as well as the evil" as being from the hand of the LORD? Job had this attitude. But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity? In all this Job did not sin with his lips. Job 2:10 New King James Version (NKJV)

Yes, instead of "lusting", as Israel did, that is to say, wishing things could be different; Job gave glory to God, as both the dispenser of good as well as evil. Look at the outcome of Job's actions, instead of "leanness of soul", God blessed him with incredible reward, and satisfaction of mind and spirit.

Still struggling with this idea of happiness? Perhaps we need to refresh ourselves with it's meaning. Consider the following lyrics written by Ira F. Stanphill.

Happiness is to know the Savior,
Living a life within His favor,
having a change in my behavior
Happiness is the Lord,

Real joy is mine,
no matter if teardrops start;
I've found the secret- its Jesus in my heart!

Happiness is a new creation,
"Jesus and me" in close relation,
Having a part in His salvation
Happiness is the Lord,

Happiness is to be forgiven,
Living a life that's worth the livin',
Taking a trip that leads to heaven--

Happiness is the Lord,
Happiness is the Lord,
Happiness is the Lord!
