Destroy All Idols

Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name:
bring an offering, and come before him:
worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness

1Ch 16:29

Well, here we are ready to face another day. For some of us we may be at the end of our day getting ready to unwind from a hectic schedule. But, whatever the case isnít it great to know that the LORD we serve, is such a faithful God? And as a Faithful God surely He is due the glory due His Name

Hebrews 13:15 says, Let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. I trust that you are making a conscious effort to worship the LORD as part of your daily walk with Him.

As we walk out our love and obedience to Him let us be sure to leave behind all that would hinder us from running a successful race. Let us be a people who, as the Apostle Paul said, are free of offense towards God and man Ac 24:16

How can we do this? One way is to determine to break down all of the idols we have set up in our lives. (We all have them, you know!) I describe an idol as "any stronghold left unchecked and challenged by the Word of God." To fail to deal strongly and swiftly with anything thing that resembles an idol of any kind is to invite total destruction and havoc into our lives.

Just how strongly, and seriously are we to respond to an idol in our life? Let me ask you this. Can you recall a time in your past where you were so mad at someone that you could have reached out and flattened his or her nose? Now take that same emotion and energy, and that is precisely the way God wants us to deal with our idols.

Let's Take a Look:

1Samuel 15:3, Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not

The word "destroy" in the Hebrew comes from the word; khaw-ram. In it rawest form it means to; "flatten the nose." Now I know I got the attention of all you macho guys out there, for who doesn't like a good fight, especially when God Himself approves it.

If you're any kind of Bible scholar you will also know that the word "Amalek", is a type, or another word for the "Flesh" and what are we told to do concerning the flesh, "do not spare it!Ē no, not for one second. Isaiah speaks further on this subject in yet more aggressive terms. He writes, after the LORD punished Israel;

When the Lord punished Israel, Isaiah wrote: "Only then can the fruit of his forgiveness be shown: they must smash their stone altars into pounded chalk Isaiah 27:9 (JBP)

So, the question is, "Just how angry, aggressive, serious, are you willing to get at pulling down the idols in your lives? Are you angry enough to "punch them right in the face", or "pulverize them into the ground rendering them powerless and incapable of ever springing back to life?

And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward menAc 24:16
