Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed
the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
And the word of the
LORD was precious in those days; Job 23:12 1Sam 1:31

WHAT IS THE MOST ESSENTIAL THING IN YOUR LIFE? Jesus said to His Disciples in John 4:32 I have meat (food) to eat that ye know not of. My meat (food) is to do the will of him that sent me, and to accomplish his work. And what was included in that work? John 17:14 tells us; "I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world."

The one most important thing in the eyes of God is His word. In Psalm 138:2 we read, "I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name."

What was so important about God's word that Jesus was willing to lay His life down for. John 6:63 gives us the answer. "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life."

There it is. There is no life outside of God's word. And not only is there not life, but our whole sanctification revolves around the word of God. This is revealed in Jesus His High-Priestly prayer, pouring out His heart to His Father on behalf of those who would come to put their trust in He prays, "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth". John 17:17

Sanctification is crucial to the believer. It is through this process that we are delivered to the grace of God and are built up in the most holy faith, and have the hope of an eternal inheritance. Acts 20:32 declares, "And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified."

The word of God is so important that it comes with this warning in Luke 8:18 "Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have. " In the Book of Mark we see Jesus confronting the religious leaders, those who prided on their "relationship" with God by saying to them, "You make the word of God of none effect through your tradition" (Mark 7:13).

Though heaven and earth shall pass away, we are told, the word of God shall remain forever.
In fact it is the word of God that will forever be adored throughout eternity. In revelation 19:13 we read, " And he [was] clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God."

The most important thing we can do with the word of God and one which our eternal destiny depends can be discovered is in 1Thessoloanians 2:13 "For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received [it] not [as] the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe. "

God does nothing outside His word. All that He is and offers to us is based solely on His word. In fact, There is no relationship with God unless it is based on His word. In Luke 8:21 we read, "And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it. "

So essential is God's word to us that, there is; No comfort to be experienced, No victory to be gained, No sin to be defeated, No blessing to be reaped, No enemy to be defeated, No grace to be received, No trespass to be forgiven, No revelation to be given, no salvation to be granted, No approval to be found, No truth to be revealed, and no profit to be realized, then that which is not first based and totally dependant on the word of God.

How important is the word of God? Listen to the following Scriptures:

Luk 11:28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed [are] they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

Rom 10:17 So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

2Co 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing
their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing
one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord

Jam 1:21 Wherefore putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive
with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

1Pe 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by
the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

2Ti 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth
not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Heb 4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them:
but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard [it].

Heb 4:12 For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any
twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and
of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

1Jo 2:14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him [that is]
from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong,
and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

How highly do you esteem the word of God. Do you see it any differentlytoday than you
have before? No wonder why the Psalmist wrote, "I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil."
