And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of
covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the
abundance of the things which he possesseth.
{Luke 12:15 - KJV}

I made a search with my heart to give pleasure to my flesh with wine, to go after foolish things - I undertook great works - I made myself gardens - I made pools - I got men-servants and women-servants who bore me many children - I had great wealth and aquired silver and gold from the wealth of others - I got makers of song, male and female; and the delights of the sons of men--girls of all sorts to be my brides and lovers. I became great; increasing more than all who had been before me. Nothing, which was desired by my eyes, did I keep from them; I did not keep any joy from my heart, because my heart took pleasure in all my work, and this was my reward. {Ecc - Emphasised}

Most people would relate "purpose" in life with "self fulfillment." If Solomon's life shows us anything, it reveals to us how utterly self-focused, misguided, and spiritually bankrupt he was. According to worldly standards, Solomon would be looked on as having been extremely successful. Yet you can be "successful" and still lack purpose and meaning in life. Just look at HollyWood!

In all of his wisdom Solomon was sure he could figure out what the purpose and meaning of life was. If it was out there, he would surely find it, and if didn't exist, he would invent it! But in all his achieving and scheming he came to this conclusion; This is of no purpose. I hate life because it stinks, is meaningless, vain and a mere chasing of the wind.

What about you - Does you life have meaning and purpose? In order to know what PURPOSE is you must understand the meaning of SUCCESS as defined by TRUTH. JESUS IS THAT TRUTH. Living for your self, as did Solomon, will never, ever, reveal or bring about meaning and purpose in life.

We must understand that the PURPOSE of God for our lives is greater than self-fulfillment. Perhaps, like Solomon, we are looking for PURPOSE in all the wrong places. I recently heard someone say that;
"THE PURPOSE OF GOD IS THE DNA OF OUR LIVES." Could it be that we are spending all of our energies on all the wrong things? The Bible, God's Word, challenges us in this area by asking the question;

Why do you give your money for what is not bread, and the fruit of your work for what will not give you pleasure? Give ear to me, so that your food may be good, and you may have the best in full measure Isa 55 - BBE

PURPOSE begins by having a living relationship with the Creator of this universe. It was for His purpose we were created. Living outside His purpose for our lives is to walk about in the darkness. It was said of David;

He served God's PURPOSE in his generation, and then he died
Psalm 13:36

The Book of Ecc reminds us that God has set eternity in the hearts of man. Could this be the reason that there is so much unrest and disappointment in life? We were made with eternity in mind, yet our focus is on our selves and the things of this life, a life that by the way, is but a vapor and then is gone.
How foolish to think that we could actually plan our own lives and think that we could actually know what is or isn't right for us.

Jeremiah the Prophet wrote, "
O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps." And even Solomon, the "wisest" man, so it is said, wrote,"There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
{Ref: Jeremiah 10:23 Pr 16:25 KJV}

We can only begin to live when we discover God's purpose for our lives. And why not trust the one in whom all authority in life, has been committed? Did you know that the foolishness of God is greater than the wisdom of man, combined? This truth alone should set our hearts to rest concerning God's choices for our lives. "As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him." Ref: 2Samuel 22:31

Yes, we are perishing for lack of knowledge when it comes to understanding God's purpose for our lives. God's plan provides both a future and a hope for our lives. Yet, most people would prefer to grope around in the dark trying to discover purpose and meaning, when all the while, all they have to do is ask God to show it to them. Jesus says; "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." Luke 11:9 KJV

Yes, Jesus is the only ONE, who could declare; I have knowledge of where I came from and where I am going; but you have no knowledge ... {John 8} How exciting it is to know that the ONE who has all authority, and know the end from the beginning stands ready to lead and guide you into His purpose for you life is what will stand the test of eternity.

Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure Isa 46:10 KJV

I encourage you to; "Put all your hope in God, not looking to your reason for support - In all your ways give ear to him, and he will make straight your footsteps Put no high value on your wisdom: let the fear of the Lord be before you, and keep yourself from evil - This will give strength to your flesh, and new life to your bones." Prov 3:5-8 BBE

It is my prayer that God will make know His presence to you even in the worst of times and that you will, as never before, look to all the good He is going to accomplish on your behalf.
