PATIENCE
WHO NEEDS IT

Wait in prayer. Call on God and spread the case before. Express your unstaggering confidence in him. Wait in faith, for unfaithful, untrusting waiting is but an insult to the Lord. Wait in quiet patience, not murmuring because you are under the affliction, but blessing God for it. - Spurgeon

We have all experienced seasons in our life where we have prayed that it would quickly come to an end. But there was that hunting voice, quiet yet distinct, that reminded us ever so gently, NOT NOW MY CHILD, For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. And how is it that we should be taken back since patience is the fruit of the Spirit.
{GAL 5:22 Hebrews 10:36}.

There is a very familiar passage from which many have recited as part of their wedding vows. It declares first and foremost that LOVE is patient. When Jesus said that we were in NEED of patience HE really knew what HE was talking about. The word "NEED" means to be destitute.

I once overheard one believe saying to another, as if to inform him of the strategies of the Christian walk, O, by the way let me give you a word of warning concerning patience, that's the last thing you want to pray for. As if GOD would not see to it that we come by our rightful portion of it should we neglect to pray for it. If patience is what we are most lacking, and GOD is in the business of meeting needs (Php 4:19), you can be best assured that HE will see to it that it will be thrust in our direction (Romans 15:5).

I am thankful we have verses like Romans 8:26 which promises us; Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered

You see, there is much at risk when it comes to this area of patience in our walk. Our hope in this life, the things to come, as well as the keeping of our souls, is closely connected to the patience we exhibit. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope - In your patience possess ye your souls Romans 15:4, Luke 21:19.

As I have already stated, the LORD, who truly knows our need, will see to it that we come by our fair share of patience. And how do you suppose He will accomplish this. Well, in one sense Scripture seems to indicated that we are to take the initiative in the process of acquiring patience, for we read, Yea, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply virtue knowledge…. and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness -.2Peter 1:6.

We can also see in Scriptures that it is GOD who leads and directs our hearts in the into the realm of patience; And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ - 2Th 3:5

Elsewhere we read that patience is a consequence of the trials and tribulation that we willing and joyfully go through. Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing - But not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: James 1:3,4 Romans 5:3,4

Further we learn that patience is a choice, But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience; But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. 2Timothy 3:10, 1Timothy 6:11,
Luke 8:15

I could go on with many more examples but the time will not permit me, and I fear you would become impatient. The fact remains that it is In our patience that we are able to possess our souls {Luke 21:19}. The writer of Hebrews has this to say concerning patience; That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise {Hebrews 6:12, 10:36}.

A prayer for patience! Now that's a prayer God can and will answer. And should one be ever so brave and daring to ask GOD for it without having to be prodded, well, don't be surprised if you hear HIM respond, "I have not seen such faith in all of…"

And why not ask GOD for patience given that we truly are in need of it any way, and especially since we can count on HIM to supply the necessary grace to handle any consequence that might arise from such a radical request.

We have need of patience because our flesh is naturally given to the opposite. We need patience because our flesh is quick to sink under sufferings; which by design trials are often long-drawn-out. As believers we are admonished to be patient -- to commit our case calmly in the hands of God, and submit to his will each and every moment of our lives. Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience - But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator - James 1:3,4, 1Pe 4:19.

Yes we are in need of patience. We need of patience in order that we may be able to walk in the works that GOD has purposed before hand that we walk in them (Ephesians 2:10) We need patience to perform difficult duties, to resist the temptations of the world, the flesh, and the devil. We need patience to wait, yes wait in quiet and hopeful expectation to the answers to our prayers. And then we also need patience to receive the reward for what has been promised.

For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; Colossians 1:9,11
