And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness;
the unclean shall not pass over it; but it [shall be] for those: the wayfaring men,
though fools, shall not err [therein]. Isa 35:8

Highway of Holiness. How do you get on it? Better yet, How do you know if you're on it at all? Well, It's all about relationship. Psalm 85:13 says, "Righteousness shall go before Him and shall set us in the way of His steps."

WOW! His footsteps shall be our pathway.

It's clear then. If we're following Jesus, truly following Jesus, then we are going to be "lead in paths of righteousness." And to be lead in righteousness is to be set o n the Highway of Holiness. Notice it is a Highway of (leading to) holiness. The Apostle Paul said in
Phi 3:12 "Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus."

"Who saved and called with Holy calling." Were not these the very words of admonition that Paul bequeathed to his son in the faith? It was as if Paul was emphasizing, here is your life's vision Timothy, be taken up with it; that is, pursue holiness with every fiber of you being. The writer of Hebrews instructs in the same manner, exhorting us, "Be pursuing peace with all [people], and the holiness, without which no one will see the Lord." Heb 12:14 - ALT

Yes, Holiness is to be the VISION for all those who have been truly born-again. Everyone has a love language and God is no different. And what's at the heart of this language of His? That's right, HOLINESS. Listen to the following words from Luke 1:72-75; "That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; To perform the mercy [promised] to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; The oath which he sware to our father Abraham, That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life."

Holiness is the one true and distinguishing characteristic of a believer. The Psalmist wrote, "Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth." Selah. Psalm 60:4

Hopefully the banner flying over yours and my life is holiness. And isn't holiness just another way of saying that we are being transformed into the image of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ? How grateful are we then that the Creator has not left us alone to accomplish this work of sanctification in our own lives.

Eze 11:19,20 declares, "And I shall give to them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. And I will remove the stony heart out of their flesh, and I will give them a heart of flesh; so that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments, and do them. And they shall be to Me for a people, and I will be to them for God."

Are You On The Highway of Holiness? If not call out to the Lord this very moment and beging your walk in a new and living direction. In closing this devotion I would like to share a selection by Elizabeth Elliott on what it means to be transformed into the image of Christ. I trust you will be encouraged by it.

To be transformed into the image of Christ I must begin to do the will of the Father in the same place where He began: He emptied Himself. There is for any serious disciple, quite simply, no other starting place. It is a matter of beginning today to say no to yourself--specifically, about something you've been insisting you must have, specifically about something you have been refusing. This is step one. You travel the road "toward Jerusalem" from there, gladly taking up the cross (which is step two: saying yes to God) and following, knowing where the road led Jesus. It did not--and don't forget this!--end with a cross. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven.........

His prayer for us is, "Father, I desire that these men who are thy gift to me, may be with me where I am" (Jn 17:24 NEB).
