BROKENESS
ONE OF THE FORGOTTEN GRACES

The Scriptures reminds us that as children of God we have a great responsibility and that is to be light to others. Ye are the light of the world. Mt 5:14 This light we are told is contained, that is deposited inside what the Bible refers to as 'earthen vessels. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels. You are I are those vessels, 'jars of clay' if you will.

Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. [Matthew 5:`5] And so it is the heart of God to so shine out of our lives that we would shed His Light and Life to a world wondering about in the darkness. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

If we are going to be successful as light illuminators there is going to have to come into each our lives sufficient circumstances that will bring about genunine brokeness so that the Light of the glorious Gospel might break forth from these jars of clay and shine out into the darkness. We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.

Most of if we're honest would have to confess that we've never related to our trials in such a positive manner. After all, brokeness is not of of our favorite topics of discussion. In fact we spend a lot of our time trying to avoid the issue altogether.

When is the last time you deliberately approached GOD and asked HIM to give you the grace of brokenness. But trials that lead to genuine brokenness is the very thing that we are to take glory in. For it is in our brokeness that Christ's power might be put on display. This can only be achieved as we adopt a selfless attitude when it comes to accepting joyfully the trials that the Soverign Hand of God brings into our lives. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. 2Co 12:10

What is your attitude toward you present circumstances? Can you say as did the Apostle Paul, And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. 2Co 1:6

I trust that what ever trial you are facing that you will view it as an opportunity to show off Jesus. Besides, you never know whose watching. The Book of Acts chapter six-teen brings to our eyes this remarkable event.

But when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas, and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers. 20 When they had brought them to the magistrates, they said, These men, being Jews, are agitating our city, 21 and set forth customs which it is not lawful for us to accept or to observe, being Romans. 22 The multitude rose up together against them, and the magistrates tore their clothes off of them, and commanded them to be beaten with rods. 23 When they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely, 24 who, having received such a charge, threw them into the inner prison, and secured their feet in the stocks. 25 But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them

TALK ABOUT HUMILIATION AND BROKENNESS

This account in the lives of the Apostles really prove to us that GOD can use what apparently seems like negative consequences in our lives to gain the attention of others and to bring glory to His Name. But in order for that to have happened in the case of Paul and Silas they first had to be willing to allow their brokenness to be used by God in a way only HE could. And HE did! O, they could have fled from their persecutors and ran from their jail cell when given the opportunity, but they knew that God was up to something much bigger. They had been around the LORD long enough to know that His Hand was in all of this and they were willing to put their lives on the line and as a result they hung around to see the final outcome.

NOW THAT'S TURNING BROKENESS INTO BLESSING!

Do you have that kind of faith in GOD this very moment? Perhaps you have been wrongfully accused and are suffering greatly for it right now. But that's not the issue. The real matter is, will you allow GOD to use your brokeness to shed His saving light and grace on others around you who are without hope and without GOD?

Now let's look at what happened as a result of Paul's and Silas' willingness to let GOD be GOD in their situation.

The jailer, being roused out of sleep and seeing the prison doors open, drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped. But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, "Don't harm yourself, for we are all here!" He called for lights and sprang in, and, fell down trembling before Paul and Silas, and brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household. They spoke the word of the Lord to him, and to all who were in his house. He brought them up into his house, and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly, with all his household, having believed in God
.

As believers there is no question that we are going to experience hardship. There are plenty of references that allude to this in the Scriptures; 1Cor 15:30, Heb 10:33, Gal 2:20, John 16:33, Act 14:22, Mat 10:38. But you have a a choice to make today. Will you allow GOD to use your brokenness to casue the light of His Glorious Gospel to shine from out of your heart. HE stands ready to use you today in ways never thought possible. Besides, you never know whose watching, whose listening.

For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like men condemned to death. We have become a spectacle for the world, for angels, and for people to stare at. 1Co 4:9

ACT ON THESE THINGS - THINK ON THESE THINGS

So let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works, and may glorify your Father in Heaven. Mat 5:16
