could be more content if ___________________ (fill in the blank). Contentment
is said to be, "the freedom from complaining." And what was Achan's
complaint? Well, he just wasn't content with trusting in the mere promises that
GOD had made to lead, guide, deliver and protect. Read it for yourself in Joshua
would think by now most of us would have come to realize experientially, that
little is more. Yet why is it that we are continually enticed, driven as it were,
to always be seeking for just a "little more". It doesn't take a lot
of insight to figure out that the "eye of man is never satisfied" and
that all that is in the world as it relates to mankind achievements has come about
through greed and envy.
What is the cause of wars
and fighting among you? is it not in your desires which are at war in your bodies?
And I saw that the cause of all the work and of everything which is done well
was man's envy of his neighbour
Ecc. 4:4, James 4:1 BBE
life lived outside of GOD can never be at rest neither will it ever find contentment
in "things", whether they be in the shape of people or possessions.
It is only by and on account of the blessing of GOD that we are able to enjoy
life and all that is allotted to us in the first place. And
also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour,
it is the gift of God Ecc 3:13
To know GOD is to know contentment.
NO GOD, No CONTENTMENT! And contentment does not come over night. It is a
life long learning process, a road strewn with both sacrifice make and trials
face. Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned,
in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. Though he were a Son, yet learned
he obedience by the things which he suffered 1Ti 6:6 , Php 4:11. Heb 5:8
scriptures tell us that GOD made things simple and upright but that we have gone
out of our way to complicate matters by chasing after our own schemes. Lo,
this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out
many inventions Ecc 7:29 SCHEMES, now that's an appropriate depiction of
what's going on inside the heart of the one who believes the age-old lie that,
'money not GOD is the answer to everything.' Ecc 10:19
you listen to your heart instead of trusting in the providence of GOD for your
lot in life, like all other who have foolishy charted their own course, supposing
to be the captain of their own fate, you will without doubt suffer shipwreck.
Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having
put away concerning faith have made shipwreck. But they that will be rich fall
into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown
men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil:
which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves
through with many sorrows. 1Ti 1:19: 1Ti 6:9
as it may seem the "church" like the world has come to the conclusion
that the accumulation of wealth and possessions of things leads to a person's
worth and has a direct correlation to a person's success and contentment. They
adhere to this so much so that they will even manipulate the moment just to get
a "little more" of what GOD calls "unrighteous mammon."
examples of this read about - Achan in Joshua 6&7, The Religious
Leaders in Mark 7:11, Ananias and Sapphira in Acts Chapter 5. Concerning
this Jesus clearly warns us, Wherefore come out from among
them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and
I will receive you 2Co 6:17
then is the 4-1-1 on the subject of contentment (Philippians 4:11). If
riches increase do not set your heart on them
Psalm 62:10 - Godliness with contentment is great gain 1Timothy
6:6 - Having therefore food and clothing be content
1Timothy 6:8 - Feed me with food that is necessary Proverbs
30:8,9 - Give us this day our daily bread Matthew 6:11- Man's
life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth
I know that this will not set well with the Americanized version of Christianity,
commonly referred to by some as the Prosperity Gospel. But here is the simple
truth. If we entered this life having nothing, and we will be leaving it in similar
fashion, then it only stands to reason that while we are here we can get along
with just as much. The greatest pursuit you and I will ever embark on is the pursuit
of godliness. Such an adventure is said to yield great gains. And you thought
it was Wall Street that offered you security and contentment.
But godliness with contentment is great gain. But thou, O man of God, flee these
things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness
1Timothy 6:6, 11
is not a "kill-joy, HE only knows what will work and bring lasting contentment
to these fragile lives of ours. Anything that competes for our affection and attention
in the pursuit of godliness must go! Casting down imaginations,
and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing
into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ, having in a readiness
to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled 2Cor 10:5,6
comes through the fear of GOD and submission to HIS will. What HE has purposed
for our lives is the only thing that will bring about genuine contentment. There
is nothing we can do to add to it or take away from it. But
as God hath distributed to every man, as the Lord hath called every one, so let
him walk. Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.
I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to
it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before
1Cor 7Ecc 3:14
didn't create yourself so how could you possibly know what will make you content.
We are totally incapable of governing and guiding our own lives. Only GOD is powerful
enough to do that. And you will only discover what it means to be content as you
develop a personal relationship to HIM through HIS SON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.
contented life is the submitted life. And in a world were some of the first words
we learned to say as infants; no, mine, I want, give me; that saying a whole lot.
Yet a man's greatness can be seen to the extent he is willing to humble himself.
GOD says to such a person, Whoso offereth praise glorifieth
me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation
of God Ps 50:23 How about your conversation, is it free from covetousness?
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content
with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake
thee Hebrews 13:5 Our contentment hinges on this one promise and that is,
GOD HAS SAID! And if GOD has said it we can take it to heart and rest in each
and every promise HE has made. So don't be Achan for trouble, and don't
go looking for trouble. Find you fulfillment and contentment in GOD. HE
alone can satisfy.
is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them. Who

God. O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer: give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah. Behold,
O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed. For a day in thy courts
is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God,
than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the LORD God is a sun and shield:
the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that
walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee
